AN OPEN LETTER TO MY SISTER
Jillian [Dankmeyer, for those of you who don’t know],
You have got to stop.
How you affect the people in your family is your business. You are the one who will have to reap those consequences. How you affect the people in my family, though, is my business and I am tired of living with those consequences.
The day Michael and I got married and the insanity that has followed laid waste to the familial relationships I grew up with. Irreparable damage has been sustained. Sure, we have tried to kid ourselves a few times over the years, patch the gaping wound with a bandaid. But, my God, it’s time to grow up, cultivate some self-awareness and stop insinuating or explicitly sharing anything things that have nothing to do with you.
Let’s get something straight. I am not lost. No one in our family lost me. I left. The reasons were and continue to be plentiful. You share responsibility for those reasons. You are a character in that story. You share responsibility for the continuation of all the animosity that has continued.
